Naive art

After visiting the exhibition I have had new ideas and new artists in mind to look at. As I said in my last post I think that the work was very simple and naive looking which is another route I want to go down. I have looked at many artists who use simple form and shapes along with block colours to create eye catching abstract pieces which truly amaze me. I have decided to possibly go down this avenue and simplifying key shapes in the birthing process along with colours that link with emotions to create a naive looking piece that's also really effective.

The Civic exhibition.

Today I visited the Sam shendi mother and child exhibition at the civic gallery in Barnsley. This visit was part of our project as we're working closely with this exhibition. I really didn't have high expectations of these sculptures through seeing them in photographs but when I finally saw them in the flesh I completely changed my mind. The colours where so bright and all the pieces spoke out to me and told a different story. Colour psychology is a massive part of these pieces which really appealed to me and the pathway I'm wanting to go down. Looking at the sculptures I could see a sort of nativity in them with the simplicity and block colours. I really loved this exhibition and it gave me so many new ideas to work off

Bright coloured artists

I've been looking at lots of artists who use bright colours in there work. I've mostly been finding these artists on Pinterest however I have also looked at piccolos rose and blue periods as they are key examples of expressing emotions through colours in art

Symbolism

Now I've decided to look also at symbols and simplifying objects that link closely with mothers and children and also the birthing process, I've been looking at objects like eggs, sperm and umbilical cords and simplifying them into shapes that are much plainer and less detailed.

So at this point I have only been researching colour theory, I've decided to look closely at colours and the emotions they show as I feel that's a massive part of art that is often overlooked. I want to look closer at earthy colours to show growth and naturalistic vibes and also greens that demonstrate fertility and also growth

Day 1 Pinterest and mind map

Today I have started by simply making a Pinterest board. I have tried looking for artist s and pieces of work that relate to the project however also have an element of my style in them. I have also been searching on Pinterest about different colour theory's and symbolisms.
Today I also started a mind map in my sketchbook which has helped me a lot in deciding the routes that I could possibly explore and go down.
Developing a Pinterest board on this project has helped me to find different artists who look closely and a mother and child's bond. I have found artists of very similar style which is brilliant as I usually struggle to find that.

Mother and child project

Today we have been given our new project 'mother and child' this project is inspired by the work of sculpture Sam shendi and his work that has been recently exhibited in the civic art gallery in Barnsley.
We have been asked to fill a full a4 sketchbook with research on the project and asked to interpret the brief in our own unique way.
Straight away I had ideas as me and my mother have an extremely strong bond so I defiantly wanted to do a project that could link in with them emotions. I also wanted to try and tailor this project to my abstract style and I have straight away had a thought on looking at colour theory and symbolism.
