Sample piece 6

This is a piece of old wood I found whilst taking my bins out at the flat. I decided to grab this as I thought the wood looked like a really good thing to paint on and I thought the shapes and elements to the piece looked really interesting. I decided to use gouache over an acrylic paint yellow underlayer which once dried I scratched into using a palette knife. This is my favourite sample I've created and I think it's due to the amount of colour and texture visible on the piece. The yellow and black are such a good combination and they contrast each other very well.

Sample piece 5

I created this piece whilst designing for my final piece. I decided to do this piece as I managed to get hold of another little canvas and I wanted to see how painting my design would look on canvas. I also wanted to practice simplifying my design sheets do I decided creating a simple canvas piece would help with that. This piece was created using acrylic paint, tissue paper, ink spray paint and oil pastels. The piece is inspired by the peeled paint, decay and rust I have been focusing on but in a very abstract way.

Sample piece 4

This sample piece was created on a piece of mdf board I found outside my flat. I decided to practice the gouache and peeling paint idea I tried out in sample 3 but on a wooden surface and with different colours. I used gouache and a heat gun again with this piece however it didn't seem to dry and crack aswell as the other. I'm not sure why this is. However I still really like the overall effect of the piece and I still think it fits in well with my other experiments. I also added gold to this piece to show a clear link in my sampling. 

Sample piece 3

This piece was created using a small square canvas I already had at home and wasn't using. I decided to use this canvas as an experimentation. I wanted to practice layering different coloured paint on top of one and other and then scraping that paint back off using a palette knife. I created this piece using gouache paint and a heat gun to crack it and dry it rapidly. I then scratched away at the top layer to reveal the undercoat of light blue. I used a craft knife to cut into the piece to give a worn out effect and to experiment with how the canvas would hold with bits missing.

Sample piece 2

Here is a piece I created using an old cupboard door I used out of my garage. I decided that painting on this would be really effective and would also fit very well with my theme as it's an item that if not used would have been sitting around for another few years. I love the idea of recycling things and finding a better use for them. I used acrylic paint on this piece along with spray paint and inks to add layers of different medias. I decided to stick to a blue and yellow colour scheme as I wanted to keep this piece simple and not to shy away from the Beauty of the medium I was painting on. I really love this piece as I think it's so interesting to look at! I found it amazing the way the wood peeled off so easily and it really was a pleasure to paint. With this piece I needed up adding splashes of gold leaf dotted around to add a luxurious element and make it more like a piece of artwork.

My prints

Here are my  prints I decided to create to give out during my exhibition. I decided to do this as I wanted to think of a way in which I could get my work noticed and seen by people who didn't just come to the opening night. I want people to take these prints home and put them on their fridges or in a little frame and their friends to see them. This is the way to get your work noticed and name known. I also wanted to give a little token of me to everyone who came to the opening night to show appreciation. These prints all got designed by me and scanned into a computer. I then printed them off on thicker card and signed every one. I used selephane bags to put them in and added my details on the back invade anyone needed  to contact me.

Sample canvas 1

Here is a piece of art I created whilst in my experimental/sample stage of the project. I created this piece using  an old recycled canvas I had previously painted on but because I wasn't too keen on the origional piece I thought the canvas could be put to better use. This also shows the recycle part of my project. This piece was created by firstly using a layer of tissue to cover the origional colour I painted  under the canvas. I then painted over this tissue using a white immulsion which turned out very well. It gave the piece a subtle and simple looking effect and the greens from the tissue paper and original colour underneath work really well peeping Through the gaps in the paint. I then used some gold leaf to add some shiny accents to the piece which I think made it really pop.
