Today I started to paint on some more found items which included a wooden board I found outside my flat and a piece of mdf. I did these using gouache and drying and re painting over them several times. I then used a palette knife to peel parts of the paint away. I also created a piece on canvas using tissue paper underneath to create a cracked looking effect. This went really well however it was harder to peel paint away. I've also experimented using gold leaf today on the paintings I've created. The gold leaf has made the paintings look loads cooler and more fancy.

Today I started and finished my first design sheet. I created this on cardboard and wanted to incorporate a lot of the research i have been looking at throughout my sketchbook such as peeled paint, rusting, decay, litter and graffiti. I'm happy with the outcome of this sheet. Today I have also started to paint on some tin cans I found on my travels. I've done this as it links with my litter element of the project but I also wanted to see what different effects I could get on the metal. I have also played around today using alcohol based inks and rubbing alcohol to create small samples in my sketchbook mimicking rust.

Today I started a piece on some wood I found near my bin. This piece of wood was part of an old cupboard and I thought it would be really interesting to work on top of. I decided to create an effect on the wood that made it look like paint was chipping off. This was really cool to do and I created this using gouache paint as it gets very dry and is prone to cracking. I put a lighter colour underneath then covered that in the darker black which meant the lighter colour would show through all the cracks formed with the heat gun. I then worked into the piece using sand paper to make the wood look more aged and as if it was something that had naturally just cracked and weathered instead of a painting. I'm really happy with the outcome overall.

Today I have worked on creating some samples on small pieces of mdf. I've created these tiny experimental pieces based on peeling paint. I've created 5 different pieces using different mediums
The first piece I created was using multiple layers of gouache. I dried the layers straight away using a heat gun to form cracks on the surface the underlying colour then showed through the cracks.
The second piece I used pva glue mixed with ink. This meant that the layer of colour one dried could be easily peeled and played around with.
Thirdly I did a piece using a layer of paper and painting over that with acrylic I then ripped the paper to show the underlying colour.
Fourth I decided to experiment using the puff binder. I then covered the layer of puff binder in oil pastel to add another colour.
Finally I just created a piece using acrylic paint layered with oil pastel.
I then decided to quiz my classmates on their favourite experimental piece and also the piece they thought resembled peeled paint the most. Most voted for the layered gouache piece.
The least favourite was the puff binder piece.
Today I also experimented in my sketchbook using puff binder. I used it on material, wood, cardboard and paper. Both coloured and plain puff binder was used.

Today I've worked In my sketchbook mostly. I have created a page in my sketchbook on road signs and also a page with primary research on road signs.
Also today I have painted on a piece of old wood I found near a skip and I've created a piece. I've used acrylic paint but also I've used pva glue to create a peeling effect. I've used crackle paste and oil pastels too. I like the piece I've created but I'm not 100% happy with it. Next week I'm going to re work into it. Today I have also completed a sheet in my sketchbook on rust dying. I decided to rust dye fabric and put them in my sketchbook. I've also added a rating system to explain my favourite pieces of dyed fabric and why. I'm happy with this page.

Today I have started another artist research sheet as after asking my
Peers a few where going to do more than 2 and I wanted to do that as well to ensure my project is at the level I'm happy with. I decided to do this sheet on artist carol nelson. I have looked at carol nelson a few times before at College and I decided that her art work would be really interesting to look at. I really love the way she encorporates rust and deccay to her work and the beautiful colours that she achieves. I created this artist sheet using inks, acrylic paint, oil pastels and pen.
Overall I am really happy with the outcome of my sheet and I think it looks really interesting.

Today I have started to create an artist research sheet on gerhard richter. I decided to do a sheet on him because I really love his work and I think that the sheet would look really cool next to my work in my exhibition. I created the piece using acrylic paint and a palette knife. I am really happy with the outcome of this piece however I don't think I matched the piece I was looking at really well. This is because it was hard to blend the 100% correct colours so a lot of the colours where slightly off. I'm still happy with the piece and think the colours compliment my 'rusty' project very well. Today I also created a page in my sketchbook on the research I collected whilst in York. I stuck all the images down however I had too many pictures so I created a little pouch for more of my images to fit into.
