Today I got my canvases from woodwork. This meant that I could finally start to stretch them myself! I hadn't done this before so Claire had to guide me a bit but I really enjoyed the whole experience of creating my own thing to work on. Stretching the canvas was actually a lot harder that I expected. It took a lot of strength and energy to get the canvas as tight as possible (drum skin tight). It took a lot of skill to stretch the canvas and staple it to the wood at the same time. The smaller canvases where a lot easier than the large one.
The hardest bit however was priming my large canvas with the emulsion. This is because I had to evenly spread the emulsion and work it into the canvas to create a soild frame to work from. I was very happy with my overall results and will write again on how the canvases felt when painting in them.
